Mapping Techniques Training (Czech Republic)

Project Type: Coaching & Training

The Czech Republic is forging ahead with culture-led development. During 2010 the cities of Brno and Ostrava hosted large-scale events and symposia on how to make a strategic use of the local creative and cultural resources for improving economic prospects. At the time, Ostrava was bidding for the title of EU Capital of Culture in the Czech Republic 2015 and the local stakeholders invited Lia Ghilardi to bring her mapping and process-mentoring skills in order to develop a long-term plan for understanding and maximising the unique resources of this city. The result was that Ostrava and its region were designated by the government as a creative cluster.

At the time, Brno was also involved in a preparatory mapping, which subsequently fed into proposals for the reuse of a large historic site (a former prison) as a creative economy hub. Lia was involved in mentoring key local stakeholders (e.g. planners) on how to integrate the future hub into the life of this dynamic and culturally vibrant city.
